SHIN's Evidence Based Practices for Permanent Support Housing

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Health Information Network (SHIN) has a program kit on how to establish and maintain permanent supportive housing.  Permanent support housing is affordable, community-based housing that is connected to voluntary and flexible support and services designed to meet tenants’ needs and preferences. A toolkit for tenants is also available with information about leases, help paying for housing and housing rights.

  • The environment includes our living, learning, and working spaces and the larger communities where we participate as citizens.
  • Good health can be fostered by occupying pleasant, stimulating environments that support our well-being. Additionally, good health can be enhanced by places and spaces that promote learning, contemplation and elicit the relaxation response.
  • Being able to be and feel physically safe, in safe and clean surroundings, and able to access clean air, food, and water.
